I wish I could be back in prison! Community-based support for offenders with communication support needs

This conference highlighted the challenges faced by people with CSN after release from prison or a non-custodial alternative. We explored what best practice in community support looks like and how policy and practice might be developed to improve services and reduce offending.
The conference was chaired by Sheriff James Mackie and Allan Speirs, chair of the SOLD ‘User Group’. Our thanks go to them and to the speakers and workshop facilitators. This was the first in-person event since the covid-19 pandemic for many people and we are grateful to all who attended and made it a success.
Speakers were Steve Robertson (Deputy Chair of the SOLD User Group); Catriona Dalrymple (Deputy Director of Community Justice and Parole, Scottish Government); Karyn McCluskey (CEO of Community Justice Scotland); James Maybee (Justice Social Work Policy & Practice Lead, Social Work Scotland); Lady Dorrian (Lord Justice Clerk).
There were four workshops facilitated by SOLD user group (UG) members and experts in their field. Dave Scott (UG) and Jana DeVilliers (Forensic Network); Darren Woods (UG) and Charlie Martin (Wise Group); Steve Robertson (UG) and Jim Cantley ; Allan Speirs (UG), Dughall Laing and Fraser McKinlay.
